Day 5 - Saturday - Paris to Calais to Dover to Canterbury to London

We really covered the miles today, leaving Paris around 08:00. It was about a 3 hour drive to the Port of Calais, France. We encountered an extremely long wait at immigration and passport control and we were hoping that we would make the ferry to Dover. And we did. We were so lucky to have a smooth sailing. The white cliffs of Dover are spectacular and breathtaking. How many times have we used that word on this trip?

After disembarking from the ferry we had a quick trip to Canterbury Cathedral. Our visit coincided with a church service that added to the specialness of our visit. We saw the place of Becket's martyrdom and admired the massiveness of the cathedral. It was another awe-inspiring experience.

It was then about an hour's ride to London. Our coach driver, Michael, gave us a great tour of the city as we made our way to our Bayswater hotel. Dinner and settling in before bed rounded out the day.
